ICYMI: Historic Golden Globes

Hospitality is an industry that benefits immensely from the efforts of women. In our decades of navigating the hospitality world, BLLA has found the efforts and inspired accomplishments of women in our sector are so often overlooked.

Oprah Winfrey captured the air of the previous year in her awe-inspiring speech at the 75th Golden Globes on Sunday evening. “I'm especially proud and inspired by all the women who have felt strong enough and empowered enough to speak up and share their personal stories. Each of us in this room are celebrated because of the stories that we tell, and this year we became the story.”

When we founded the Travel Industry Executive Women’s Network (TIEWN) in 2008, the need to champion the cause for these forgotten women was at the core of our intentions. That could not be truer today, and we’re inspired by the changes we see happening not only in Hollywood, but across the globe. BLLA has always supported women on-stage at our conferences and with a real focus on their stories in our magazines and media sites.

On March 8th, International Women’s Day, TIEWN will gather at the SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills (Los Angeles) to continue to push the conversation forward, and hone in on what these changes in climate and landscape mean for our industry in particular, all powered by BLLA.

We’re honored to have any women who would like to have their voices heard join us in Los Angeles for a day of learning, connecting and inspiring. Please click here to register to attend and/or sponsor the event.

And if Los Angeles is out of reach, please join the Travel Industry Executive Women’s Network online.

2018 is for the ladies!

#BizTrends2018: Creating new hospitality paradigms

Over the past 50 years, most hotels have come up against stiff competition as guests become more discerning and accommodation supply continues to increase. However, this sector of the industry has been particularly slow in adapting its structures and methods to suit a new generation and their needs.

The overhaul will see the triangular volume on the corner of Santa Monica Boulevard and Doheny Drive transformed into a small-scale hotel and restaurant. The redesign is set to kick off before the end of this year.

In Hotel Valuation, Being Different Helps …
Most hotels cannot match the Waldorf in value, but a new study finds that having distinctive attributes helps with hotel values for upscale properties, like the Waldorf. On the other hand, cookie-cutter similarity may actually enhance the value of midscale and discount properties. The study, conducted by Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne professor Prashant Das and his co-researchers, considered the sale prices of nearly 4,800 hotels in the United States to determine how the hotels’ attributes influence sale prices.
