Panel: Other Industries getting into the Boutique Hotel Game

Boutique hotels are the most prominent trend in hotel history, and
it’s not just the people in hospitality that know that, it’s everyone
in the world. Thus, it’s no surprise that other industries are
gunning hard to join the boutique hotel world. For the world of
fashion, take Karl Lagerfeld’s newest venture, BrandMark Collective
as he takes his world renowned personal brand to hospitality. For the
world of home retail, take West Elm’s new hotel vision where
merchandising meets hotel. How about Equinox, where they’re taking
the luxury fitness lifestyle and carefully creating a hotel
experience out of it. And then we have Soho House, the place to be
seen that started out as a members only club and added hotels that
have become just as popular. Join these inspiring leaders in how they
took the leap into this remarkable world.

Moderator: Andrew Fay, President, The Gettys Group

David Bowd, Principal, Experience West Elm Hotels (Retail)
Christopher Norton, CEO, Equinox Hotels (Fitness)
Tony Kurz, CEO, BrandMark Collective (Fashion)

9:15 – 9:30 am
Interview – Henry Kallan, President, Library Hotel Collection

Interview by: Kate Hughes, Managing Editor, LODGING

Henry Kallan, president and owner of the Library Hotel Collection, is
regarded as one of the most innovative and successful independent
hoteliers in New York. His story is a prime example of the American
Dream. When he arrived in New York City his first hotel job was a
busboy at The Gotham Hotel. With hard work and dedication, Kallan
quickly rose through the ranks into management roles at various
hotels. At the astonishing young age of 28 he became the general
manager of the Gotham Hotel, known today as the Peninsula Hotel.

9:30 – 10:15 am
Panel: Boutique Hotel Development

As more and more people realize the impact of boutique hotels and
restaurants, it’s no surprise that developers today have more
competition. Our thought-leaders will review the current competitive
landscape and share their thoughts on growth strategies. Where are
the key areas of new development? Is the attention on major markets
or on thriving secondary and tertiary markets?

Moderator: Jay Newman, COO, The Athens Group

Allie Hope, Head of Development & Acquisitions, Virgin Hotels
Michael Fuerstman, Co-Founder and Creative Director, Pendry Hotels

Panel: Investment

There is a lot of movement in the hotel transaction landscape and it
is anticipated that there will be continued merger and acquisition
activity in 2017 that is expected to remain on an upward trend, but
the concern is results won’t be as strong in 2016. How are investors
navigating the landscape? What role do lodging stocks play in hotel
transactions? What are the emerging markets for new investments? How
do you target asset selection? Prominent industry experts will
discuss the current investment climate and how offshore investment
money factors in.

The Chat: Hotspots

Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X, Baby Boomer and so on….we all eat and we
all like a night out. The growth in food trends and bars have really
changed the landscape of hospitality. We are in a world obsessed with
taking photos and sharing them to everyone we know and everyone we
don’t know. Investing in hotspots not only creates the best jumpstart
for a brand, but it also keeps the allure going that your company is
not only relevant but also an essence of the times. It is literally
the best way to become a part of the defining experience of an era.
So where’s the next Studio 54?
